Thompson's Vitex
Vitex Agnus-Castus, or Chaste Tree, shows hormone type activity but is itself not a hormone. It helps to regulate the menstrual cycle and may assist in the symptomatic relief of irregular periods. Its effects derive from its ability to maintain a normal balance of oestrogen and progesterone in the body.
Research undertaken in Germany in the 1960’s indicated that Vitex works via the pituitary gland, maintaining a healthy balance of luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) in the body as well as normal prolactin levels.

About Thompson's Vitex:
Most trials show that treatment for at least three menstrual cycles may be required before symptom relief is experience in PMT. Several clinical studies have been conducted involving women taken oral contraceptives that have confirmed the herb still reduces PMT symptoms and does not affect the oral contraceptive pill. In cases of irregular menstruation, investigation for serious pathology should be undertaken before use of this herb.
